Mělo by sice platit,že si pískomilové většinou sami od sebe regulují velikost skupiny s ohledem na prostor ,který mají k dispozici ,na to se však nemůžete spoléhat.V důsledku domestikace ztratili své přirozené instinkty a může se stát ,že samička bude neustále březí a akvárium bude brzy "přetékat" malými pískomily.Nechcete-li,aby se váš byt proměnil v jedno velké akvárium,měli by jste včas začít s plánovaným rodičovstvím,To znamená ,že pískomily rozdělíte podle pohlaví.

Pokud však budete chtítchovat pískomily podle barevných rázů ,měli byste se ještě věnovat podrobněji studiu genetiky/nauky o dědičnosti a informovat se u ostatních chovatelů.Rozmnožování umožněte jen zdravým zvířatům! Páření a porod:
Pískomilové žijí zpravidla monogamně.V rámci jedné příbuzenské skupiny se o potomstvo stará většinou jen jedna samička.Pokud jev říji i některá z jejích dcer,může mezi nimi docházet k vážným rozbrojům.Když tato "šéfka" zemře,nastoupí na její místo dcera.Tím je zajištěna kontunuita rodu.
